Abstract

Memory acquisition can be seen as synonymous with learning, as long-term memory can only be formed from what has been grasped. This study aimed to investigate the memorization process in 6th-grade students of the State Public School in Maringá (PR), within the science curriculum, specifically focusing on the Hydrosphere content. The Sequence of Investigative Teaching (SEI) approach was employed, followed by four data collection stages conducted over two years using structured questionnaires to observe changes in the memorization process of concepts and ideas learned during the implementation of SEI. The results showed a greater consolidation of core memory, highlighting the importance of the relationship between classroom content and students' daily lives. This can lead to attitude changes, contributing to the formation of more engaged and aware citizens. Furthermore, the findings reinforce the importance of the memorization process in learning.
